Hi all,
First post here to get some ideas on setting up a game plan to build a head unit out of a tablet.
I'm trying to figure out a way to have the tablet shut down (not sleep) when the car is stopped and have it boot up when the car starts.
Coming from an island near the equator, it gets extremely hot here and the cabin heats up when parked outside like you wouldn't believe. So I'm trying to ditch the tablet battery as well. I've seen the hack using the battery PCB to directly send power to the tablet which would solve this problem.
Why I want to shut the tablet down completely is out of worry that it may wake up due to a temp warning (since the temp sensor is still intact) or some other error and will start draining the car's battery. And if I have it permanently running (directly wired to the battery) it can't be good for the tablet itself to have it run round-the-clock right?
The solution I can think of is to;
Wire the tablet's power to the ACC wire,
Wire an external push button to the tablet's power button and mount the button on the dash.
Push the button to power the tablet on after starting the car and remember to shut down the tablet before turning the car off.
This is not exactly hassle free. Do you have any ideas on how to go around this issue?
Thanks.
