I am very interested in getting a custom permanent install in my car, and have been watching every video and reading every post I can find about the different apps, kernels widgets etc. I am very quick learner, but still am confused on what will work best for me. It seems like Timur's kernel is the best "plug and play" setup for a permanent in car setup, but only seems to work on an N7. The 7" screen seems a bit small for my car, and am more looking for an 8-9" screen. Are there any other tablets with a larger screen that this kernel will work on? Or, would I be better off getting something like a Nexus 9 and using the ElementalX kernel?
Thanks guys!

Timur's kernel will only work with the N7 .. the reason the N7 is so popular is because the size makes it ideal to install in most double din apertures with maybe some minor adjustments, anything bigger and you start to struggle to get a good install.
if you wanted to use something bigger then you would have to use another kernel like Elementalx ..

Makes a lot of sense. I was wondering why a 3 year old tablet was still considered the main platform for car integration. I will be making my own enclosure as I want to keep the stereo for now, and it is a pretty large opening, not a typical double din opening if/when I decide to relocate the stereo to the glove box.
I saw this post in another section of this forum, which ironically is how I found this cool forum by googling "timur kernel Nexus 9". Anyways, I looked at his website, and did not notice any mention of a Nexus 9. Has he removed this capability with his Kernel? I did notice that the Nexus 9 hardware seems to be a bit lacking vs the 7, so it may be a bit laggy for what I am looking for. My only hands on experience with tablets right now is a really cheap Azpen tablet, and it is unbearably slow.
Another question, probably not suited for this thread, can ElementalX do everything that the Timur can? I understand it wont be as plug and play and will require more fiddling. Is there another kernel/rom I could look into as well to get me in the same boat on a different tablet?

He discontinued development of the N9 kernel and it is not available.
If I remember correctly with the N9 you can not have charging and OTG at the same time ..
Elemental X I think will do most of what Timur's kernel can do, but things like deep sleep etc you would have to configure yourself and it may not be so good .. its been a while since I looked at Elementalx kernel and cant quite remember the benefits of Timur's over elemntalx ..
I have not heard of any other ROM's that will do the same thing, but that doesn't mean there are not some out there, but I would doubt it.
The 2013 N7 is still good for today, it even has Marshmallow android 6, and for a car instal it has plenty of power.
The new reported N7 may be worth waiting for, but as far as the Kernel goes I am not sure if Timur will be developing one for that.

Fair enough. I just ordered an N7, hope to get it soon to play with it. Thanks!
