Use a galvanically isolated dc-dc converter ( do no use cheap chinese converters) to power the battery pcb, i use "SD-15A-5" from Mean Well, that has a trimpot to lower the voltage down to 4.45v which by the way works great for me. Using a standard psu or usb car charger will give you ground loop and you will need another audio usb dac or audio isolator circuit to fix the high pitch noise. Common ground between the car (a very noisy powe source) and the nexus it's not a good ideea anyway! Nice mod .. love it when mods are modded and improved

Have you tested this on a 2012 or 2013? also what amperage does it output, because I know some users where having issues with 1 or 2.1 amps not being enough to power the tablet or to get it to start with 4v (I did mean 4 not 4.7 as they where to scared to run it at 5v usb) Also in that picture I assume you mean with the battery not connected, correct?(some users where keeping there battery connected for some stupid reason, I can remember why)

Without the battery, just cut the aluminium strips from the battery connector and solder the wires on the pcb pads, be carefull with the wire thickness min. 22awg. You can also solder the resistor to the black cable directly or desolder the black wires and solder a smd 1206 package resistor on the pcb. I will recommend a min 2amp dc-dc converter, if you like to run cooler a 3amp. @ 4.4v = 100% fake battery display www.ebay.com/itm/SD-15A-05-DC-DC-Power-Supply-Single-Output-5-Volt-3A-15W-5-Pin-/391232744113 for those who live in US www.tme.eu/gb/details/sd-15a-05/dcdc-converters/mean-well/sd-15a-5/ for Europe I will never put a 5$ psu to run nexus directly, better to be safe than sorry Nexus 2013 has the temp sensor on the pcb, i've struggle to read the IC's on the pcb but no way, most of the are not labeled or they are covered with epoxy Imagine a polymer battery sitting in the sun inside the dash @60c - 70c Here is the wiring for 2013 Nexus:

Interesting. Been away a while haha.
So dropping the voltage DOES help with the issues? I want to try this again. Im somewhat torn though. My tablet stays at 100% almost all the time, dropping down to maybe 96% under extreme use. I shut it down completely if Im not going to be driving it for a while (like now when the car has been at the shop for weeks).

>>Plug in the OTG cable as usual as this is used to suspend and wake the N7 via Timur's kernel as this will supply power to the N7 via the charging port, but it will not charge the N7 as it will already be reading full capacity from the car battery and will only be used to suspend and wake (along with other normal operations)<< Hi Kev I have done the no-battery-mod with great success so far (thanks very much for the awesome guide!), but I am using ElementalX kernel and CM13 instead of Timurs ROM. I use Tasker to wake the device by detecting if something is connected to the USB port when the car is turned on (in my case the rear USB of my car stereo) Unfortunately this does not seem to wake the tablet. Tasker doesn't respond to anything plugged into the USB port. I have also tried using an OTG and USB cable and still nothing and the headunit doesn't detect the tablet anymore through the USB.
So I wonder if this would be resolved with Timurs ROM? I want to be able to use Android AOAv2 to play music on my aftermarket Kenwood headunit directly rather than via a DAC and OTG cable as the sound is amazing without needing those extra bits. This means the headunit needs a direct standard USB connection to the USB port on the tablet to work. Do you think Timurs ROM will help me with detecting whether the USB is connected via the headunit USB port (no OTG) and Sleep/Wake when the car is powered on? I don't really want to fork out on Timur's ROM if I am going to be stuck with the same situation!
The N7 2013 fits absolutely perfectly in place of the OEM screen in my Almera SXE, just need to get this last bit right to have the perfect N7 fixed install
Thanks again
regards Bryan

I am not sure if it will work but you could get a cheap wireless charger and attach it to the back of the N7 which will start charging when you turn the car IGN on, then set up a task to do what you need when it senses wireless charging, that way you will still keep the USB port free for whatever you need it for without the need for OTG charging. There may even be a setting in the N7 that will wake it up when it senses wireless charging (thats just a guess though). I think Timur's kernel will only wake the N7 with an OTG cable because it detects power which is the trigger to wake and suspend it

Thanks Kev. I guess the question will also be: Does the wireless charging work with the N7 battery removed? I guess I will have to see. On a slightly different note, but related: I have bought one of the SD-15A-05 DC-DC converters you linked to and want to wire it in. I had a cheap 12V to 2x USB port converter supplying the permanent power, but frankly I just don't trust it! I am a little unsure of what needs wiring where with this Meanwell device and hope you can help? I have wired a fused cable directly from bttery positive to +(input), but am unsure whether the -(input) should also go directly to the battery or if I can attach to the car frame? The confusion is caused by the FG (frame ground?) terminal 3 which I guess should definitely be connected to the car frame? So can they both go to the frame inside the cabin or.... Really appreciate any help here, I'm rather keen to not blow up my car at this point Regards Bryan Edit: Just realised it was not Kev Admin that used this Meanwell converter but luciano ! sorry Kev Luciano, would you be able to assist at all?

>> if I get chance over the next few days I will try it out and let you know Thanks, appreciate it! Ok I tried this and the charging icon does show when the wireless charger is held to the back of the N7 .. so it does detect wireless charging with the battery removed

Anyone have idea with this issue ? goo.gl/photos/ptUNxFeniK1SXtdX6Did you disconnect the battery or power at any time without shutting down the tablet completely first, this can cause similar issue's Also a bad or inadequate power supply or cable could cause the problem .. my advice though first would be to do a fresh install
